College campuses are some of the most mobility-dependent communities anywhere — sprawling, busy, and full of students moving between classes, dorms, and jobs throughout the day. To make getting around easier, Bird teamed up with Atrium on a first-of-its-kind campus solution that lets students pay for Bird rides directly with funds already loaded on their university card.
The idea is simple: remove friction. Many students already carry balances on their campus cards for dining and other essentials. By letting those funds cover Bird rides, the integration turns a tool students already have into an easy gateway to reliable transportation — no separate payment setup required.
The pilots proved the impact. At the University of Utah and Colorado State University Fort Collins, the integration drove an 85% increase in users and a 112% increase in transactions. When paying becomes effortless, more students ride — and more students gain access to dependable, affordable mobility.
This is what mobility equity looks like in practice. By meeting students where they already are, Bird and Atrium made shared micromobility more accessible to more people. We’re excited to bring this solution to more campuses across the country.
